For the third year, in collaboration with Liz Piatt (aka TheBlackKnitter), I have created a custom colorway for Black History Month inspired by a black woman whose history is significant during the period surrounding 1918.

This year, Liz chose Aileen Cole Stewart as our colorway inspiration, who was one of the first black nurses recruited by the Red Cross and, ultimately, the US Army Medical Corps, to assist with health concerns in West Virginia, coal country, due to the Spanish Flu. And for the first time, we have collaborated with black designer Fatimah Hinds (Disturbing the Fleece) to offer a kit for our colorway.

Our two previous honorees were Esther Jones, whose vaudeville act was the inspiration for the cartoon character Betty Boop, and Armelda Greene, who was the first African American woman to enlist in the   US Armed Forces.

A donation of donating $8 per kit and $5 for every skein sold to my local NAACP organization.

I realize that, because I'm white, it could appear that I am trying to capitalize on Black History Month. If you know me, you know that I embrace diversity and enjoy celebrating folks regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.  So, for clarification, this colorway was created in collaboration Liz Piatt (TheBlackKnitter).  The kit includes the pattern 'Weak Moral Fiber' by black designer, Fatimah Hinds (aka Disturbing the Fleece), who will be paid in full for every kit sold.
