Instructor: Doris Lewis
Dates: Tuesdays October 17, 24, 31, November 7
Time: 6:00p – 8:00p
Skill Level: Intermediate
Pattern: Will be provided to you in class.
Skills needed: Chart reading, previous top-down sock knitting experience.
This is a choose-your-own-adventure sock, with different stitch patterns throughout the various stages of some very basic sock construction. The sock itself is a 56/64/72/80 stitch count top-down sock. However, what happens with those stitches is what makes this sock fun. There are six fandoms to choose from, beginning with Science Fiction in the cuff to Mysterious Mysteries at the toe. You can choose to have matching socks or switch it up and have complementary socks. What will your finished socks look like? It’s a complete mystery!
Yarn: 320 – 400 yds of sock yarn. A solid or semi-solid color is strongly recommended.
Needles: US size 1 (2.25mm). The instructions for this sock are particularly suited for the using two circular needles, but can easily be adapted for either dpns or magic loop. You choose!
Yarn or tapestry needle.
The needle size stated above is the one recommended by the designer. However, adjust the needle size to the size you know produces the fabric you like and the size that fits you. If you are not sure what that is, choose a needle and yarn, then knit a gauge swatch. Like the fabric? No. Try another needle size and knit a second (or third) swatch until you like the fabric you’re getting. Next measure the circumference of your foot at the widest part. Bring your swatches and the foot measurement to class with you and together we’ll determine which stitch count you should use.
Beginner - you have no experience with the technique or skills, the class is designed to teach you the basics.
Intermediate – you have some experience and confidence with the technique or skills, but need a bit more practice, you’re ready to take your skills to the next level.
Advanced – you know how to read patterns and understanding how the stitch is made; you know what you are doing. You are ready for a challenge and to learn new techniques and skills.
