Clapotis Scarf- July 19 & August 2
Instructor: Judie Hershey
Date: Thursday, July 19 & August 2
Class Size: 6
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Clapotis is French for lapping or ripple. This scarf, which can be made larger into a stole, looks like lapping waves. It’s knit on the bias so a variegated yarn makes diagonal stripes and stitches are carefully dropped to make a pattern in the opposite direction. This creates a scarf which tends to be a little more of a parallelogram than a rectangle.
Skills learned in this class include dropping stitches on purpose.
This class is appropriate for advanced beginner knitters on up.
Class length is 2 sessions of about 2 hours each.
About 800 yards of worsted-weight yarn, a size 8 US (5mm) circular needle, 24-32 inches, and a bunch stitch markers. Other weights of yarn may be used, with the appropriate needles. The yarn in the sample is Lang Mille Colori Socks and Lace, with size 4 US needles. The scarf can easily be altered in both length and width. The markers are helpful in the beginning, but we will learn an easy way to do without them.
