Cables Without a Needle: Yonder Cap- November 18
with: Judie Hershey
Date: Sunday, November 18
Skill Level: Intermediate
Do you love cables, but hate to knit them because you can never find a cable needle when you need one? This project will help you learn to cable without a cable needle. After knitting the 255 cables (yes, I counted) in the Yonder Cap, cabling without a cable needle will be second nature.
About 150 yards of worsted-weight wool. Wool works best, as it is less slippery and will make the cabling easier.
The model used Malabrigo Rios in the Solis colorway.
Us 6.0/4.0 mm 16 inch circular needle
US 7.0/4.5 mm 16 inch circular needle
US 7.0/4.5 mm double pointed needles
Pattern available on Ravelry at: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/yonder
The cost of the pattern is not included in the price of the class and should be purchased before the class.
The homework for this class is very important. As this is a one-session class, doing your homework (the hat ribbing) will ensure that you can get to the important stuff—cables—right away. Otherwise you may spend the entire class just knitting the ribbing. The hat starts as follows:
Using the smaller needles and the long tail cast on method (or your favorite stretchy cast on), cast on
100 sts and join for knitting in the round, taking care not to twist your stitches. PM to keep track of
your beginning of round.
Round 1: *K2tbl, p2; rep from * to end.
Round 2:*K2, p2; rep from * to end.
Rep round 1-2 for a total of 7 times (14 rounds worked) or until piece measures about 1 3/4 inches.
