Event

Imagine having the opportunity to spend the weekend with and learn from one of the most popular and accomplished knitwear designers in the US.  Add to that a swag bag filled with goodies valued over $100 a weekend in a beautiful hotel suite and delicious food from local restaurants!

We’re so excited that Anne Hanson from Knit Spot has agreed to join us for our 2nd Annual Retreat!  Not only are Anne's designs classic and timeless, but her Bare Naked Wools yarn is an incredible line of custom-spun lusciousness!

Accommodations will be at the incredible Sheraton Suites on the banks of the beautiful Cuyahoga River and just steps from downtown shopping where you will find everything from coffee & wine, to gifts and yes, even yarn!  Our shop is just a block from the hotel and an exclusive 10% discount on all merchandise will be yours for the entire weekend. We’ll also be dining at local restaurants and taking in the charm and uniqueness of our community.  I promise you will love it as much as we do!

Our goal for this retreat is to make sure your every need is met from the time you arrive until you leave for home.

All-Inclusive Itinerary:

Friday – Meet & Greet with Anne Hansen, distribution of Swag Bags, ice breaker, dinner, Door Prizes!

Saturday – Breakfast, Class, Lunch & free time, Class, Dinner at a local restaurant, More Door Prize Drawings!

Anne Up Close

This class will give you a glimpse into Anne's inspiration and design process from concept to creation!  She will have many of her design models on hand and talk a bit about how Bare Naked Wools came into being.  Plenty of opportunities to ask questions & interact with Anne.  And all of the luscious Bare Naked Wools will be on site to touch, compair and even make purchases!

Afternoon Class - Yarn Voyage

Ever wonder why, when you achieved the exact gauge using a different yarn, your finished object looks nothing like the original?

Much more than a discussion about yarn weights, this explorative class for knitters of all levels covers myriad yarn characteristics and their effect on knitted fabric. Participants will learn how yarn type relates to gauge, needle size, texture, and fabric integrity, and how to use that information to make better choices and/or substitutions in their projects. Students will test knitting yarns of various fibers, constructions, and fiber preparation to make comparisons and learn to assess final fabrics. Even the most experienced knitters will go away with new insight into the fibers and yarns they thought they knew.

Sunday – Breakfast, Check-Out, Class, Lunch at a local restaurant

Morning Class – Spectacular Sweaters

An intermediate class in the important basics of sweater fit and construction. Topics of discussion will include swatching, yarn choices, pattern reading and terminology, types and uses of shaping techniques (increasing and decreasing), tips and tricks for successful navigation through a sweater project.  The emphasis of this class is on the preparation and execution for a well-fitting sweater.   Participants will complete a thorough set of body measurements and discuss how to use them to choose and use a sweater pattern in an appropriate size.

Students must have a complete understanding of increasing/decreasing, have completed a project that requires shaping (sweater, mittens, etc), and have an intermediate level of knitting skill and pattern reading (understanding of intermediate knitting terminology is expected).
