Instructor: Judie Hershey
Dates: Thursdays, January 23, 30, February 6, 13, 20, & 27
Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced. Serious cables going on here. Charts only on the cables.
This hooded pullover features an optional kangaroo pocket, loads of incredible, but not too difficult cables, including cables around a split neck that continue into the hood. The sweater is knit bottom up, in the round until the armhole shaping. Sleeves are knit flat then set in.
Skills needed: Knit, purl, experience knitting in the round, and basic cabling. This is a great project to get your cable mojo going.
Skills taught: Cables without a needle.
Materials: Choose a worsted or Aran weight yarn that has some inherent resilience (elasticity) to make working the cables and decreases easier. The cables will appear to best advantage in a wool yarn, especially if the yarn blooms a little on washing. If you choose a yarn that doesn’t have much of wool’s natural stretch, the fabric will have more drape; while the pullover is just as lovely, the cables do not stand out as much as they do in pure wool.
In order to ensure that we will have your yarn in time for the class, please be sure to stop in at least two weeks prior to your class to select your yarn.
Yardage: For 35.5” (39”, 43.5”, 48”) size: 1100 (1200, 1350, 1500) metres or 1200 (1300, 1485, 1650) yards.
Needles: Size 7 US circular, or any size that will give you a gauge of 4.5 stitches and 6 rows = 1 inch in stockinette in the round and flat. You will also need a circular needle on size smaller for the hem.
Pattern: Rogue, by Jenna Wilson, available from Ravelry, or in the shop.
Homework! Have your gauge swatches done (and blocked!) before the first class. You will need to do 2 swatches: one knit flat, and one in the round. For information on swatches in the round, this video is helpful.
